Continuing Mediator Education (CME)
The purpose of mediator CME (continuing mediator education) shall be to enhance the participant's professional competence as a mediator. The requirement of mediation CME and the reporting thereof shall apply to all certified mediators seeking renewal on or after April 1, 2002 and shall be fulfilled in accordance with the following procedures.
General Requirement
In order to qualify as CME, a course or activity shall have significant intellectual or practical content and shall constitute an organized program of learning directly related to the practice of mediation. CME shall be conducted by an individual or group qualified by practical or academic experience. All certified mediators (mediators) must complete a minimum of 16 hours of CME, which shall include a minimum 4 hours of mediator ethics, in each two year renewal cycle, including the two years following initial certification. For family and dependency mediators 4 hours of the required 16 hours must be in domestic violence training per each renewal cycle. Mediator certification shall not be renewed until all CME requirements are completed.
Mediator Specific Requirements
Certified mediators are required to report 16 hours of continuing mediator education (CME) credits, applicable to each area in which they are certified as detailed below:
County: 16 hours (50% of those hours MUST be considered "live" or interactive Internet) which includes 4 hours of mediator ethics, 2 hours of domestic violence and 1 hour of diversity/cultural awareness
Circuit: 16 hours (50% of those hours MUST be considered "live" or interactive Internet) which included 4 hours of mediator ethics, 2 hours of domestic violence and 1 hour of diversity/cultural awareness
Family: 16 hours (50% of those hours MUST be considered "live" or interactive Internet) which includes 4 hours of mediator ethics, 4 hours domestic violence and 1 hour of diversity/cultural awareness
Dependency: 16 hours (50% of those hours MUST be considered "live" or interactive Internet) which includes 4 hours of mediator ethics, 4 hours of domestic violence and 1 hour of diversity/cultural awareness
